Navigating Dashboards

Updated on

Generally, Dashboards are organized in the same way as Data Walls. These main folders are organized first by Scope (Me, School, District) and then by subfolders.

Me

Dashboards defined in the "Me" scope are only available to be seen by the user who created the dashboard.

School

Dashboards defined in the "School" scope are available to any user who is assigned to the Currently Active School.

District

Dashboards defined in the "District" scope are available to any user in the school district.

Security

Scope determines availability of a dashboard, but it does not determine what information users can see on that dashboard.  Instead, information displayed on a dashboard is a function of user permissions and school access.

For example, a user must be in the elementary school to access elementary school information.  Additionally, user permissions may limit access to students on a roster vs all students in a school, or even limit access to certain information.  To learn more about permissions, see Managing Permissions.

Choosing a Dashboard

Accessing Main Navigation

Clicking on either the (1) "Dashboards" icon or (2) menu item will reveal the (3) main folder navigation page, similar to the Data Walls main navigation page.

Accessing Dashboards through Main Navigation

1. Choose the Scope.

2. Dashboards can be grouped together in folders.  The navigation "tree" will continue to grow as users click into folders and sub folders.

3. Click on the folder name to access the contents.

4.  Click on the dashboard to load and display the dashboard.

5. The information will display according to the permissions you have in ion.

6. Click the hyperlinked "Top" to return to the main navigation page.

Folders have a folder icon and are a different color than the dashboards.

Accessing Dashboards Using Search Function

Users can search for a dashboard.

1. Type key words in the search bar to locate dashboards.

2. Click Search icon.

3. Click on the dashboard to load and display the dashboard.

4. The information will display according to the permissions you have in ion.

Key words must be part of the dashboard name.
