CBM Dictionary

Updated on

A CBM (curriculum based measurement) is also known as a progress monitor.  There are several ways that these CBMs can be entered into the MTSS system.

Discuss options with the ion implementation team in order to set up the measure editor properly.

You must be a system administrator to perform this task.

To manage the CBMs (Curriculum Based Measures) available to a user in ion, navigate your browser to "Admin > Dictionaries > CBM Dictionary."

Importing from the Dictionary

ion has a pre-defined list of common CBM's.

1. To view the CBM's in the library, click the "book" icon in the upper right hand corner of the CBM panel.

2. A dialog will appear offering a list of CBM's available in the libray.

3. To add a CBM, click the Plus icon next to the name.

Adding a new CBM

CBM's are logically divided into two "parts":  (1) the CBM (typically - the vendor's name - such as AIMSWeb or FastBridge) (2) and the Measure. Before a measure can be created - a CBM (vendor) record must be created. They are hierarchical.

To create a new CBM - click the plus at the top of the CBM panel.

A dialog will appear.

1.  Fill in the CBM Name

2. Select the CBM Type

3. Mark it "Active." If the item is not marked active, it will not be visible to select when adding skills and CBM's to a student's plan.

4. Click "Save."

CBM Type must match the skill type.

Example - When entering in a CBM to measure behavior, select behavior.  If the type for CBM and skill are mismatched, the item will not be available for selection when adding skills and CBM's to a student's plan.

After clicking "Save" - the new CBM will appear in the list.

2. Click the green Plus.

Editing or Deleting CBMs

Sometimes there is a change in a vendor for CBMs or there or some skills that are not being used.  In these cases, use the edit icon to make changes.

1.  Click the edit wheel and then choose the edit icon.

2. To hide an entire CBM from the selection tools in the intervention builder, make the CBM "Inactive" by sliding the ACTIVE button from YES to No.

3. To hide one CBM in a set from a vendor, click the green eye icon.

4. It will turn from green to red with a slash and be hidden from the selection tools in the intervention builder.

CBM's should not be deleted if there is any information attached to them.

1. Use the Active/Inactive button

OR

2. Use the green "eye" to make the CBM visible/invisible when adding skills/CBM's to a student plan.

Measure Editor

Components of the Measure Editor

  1. Measure Name: The name of the measure.
  2. Measure Code: If available, the EXACT (case-sensitive) code used by the vendor for the measure. If ion is syncing data - this code is required to match data in the export files with data in ion.
  3. Source: Where is the data coming from - select from the following options in the drop down
    1. Web (Default): Data is coming either from the Web (app) or a file.
    2. Weekly Attendance: When selected, ion will capture weekly attendance from the attendance tables and enter it into a plan as a CBM.
    3. Assessment Records: When selected, ion will capture data entered into data walls and enter it into a plan as a CBM.
  4. Assessment: In some cases, CBMs may also be entered as Benchmark Scores. Linking a CBM to an assessment will give users the opportunity to mark a Progress Monitor as a benchmark - and have it populate into data walls.  The dropdown will populate with available choices
  5. Use Errors: Activates the "Errors" text box on Progress Monitoring and Group Checkin Pages. Will chart errors on CBM graphs in a plan.
  6. Use Accuracy: Activates the "Errors" text box on Progress Monitoring and Group Checkin Pages. Will chart accuracy on CBM graphs in a plan.
  7. Hide: Use this checkbox to hide a measure. No data will be deleted. The measure simply won't be available in any drop-downs.
  8. Default Skill: When importing data from a progress monitoring source (EasyCBM, FastBridge, etc) - ion will attempt to link data in the file with data in a plan. If a plan (or associated skill) does not exist, ion will create one. Select the skill that should be created by default when ion encounters CBM data that does not have a plan or skill built.
  9. Display Percentile Bands: By default, ion displays the 25, 50, 75th percentile bands on a CBM graph. You may override by entering percentile cut scores in reverse numerical order, one per line.
  10. Display Mode - If the skills will be measured hourly, choose the method that these will be calculated to display numerically on a graph:  Average, Median, Mode, Minimum, Maximum, By Period.
  11. Norms Tab: If the CBM has vendor norms, enter them here in order to see them display on the skill graph page.
  12. Goal Tab: To establish a custom goal form for this CBM, use this panel.  This is also the place to choose to set goals automatically or manually.
  13. Import Tab: This tab will be used by the implementation team to manage progress monitoring imports.
