Basic Bootcamp Overview

Your ion package allows several hours of personalized training for you and your team.  Here are a few online basics that compliment our training.  To learn more, view our user's manual on Data Walls and Student Profile.

Key Support Tools

Online User's Guide

Our online user's guide can be accessed two ways..

1.  At the right top of every page is a blue “Me” box.

  • Click the “Help” link.
  • The Help Center will populate
  • The user's manual is located in the left-hand column - click it to access the guide.

2. At the left top of every page are icons above a drop down menu.

  • Click the "?" icon.
  • The Help Center will populate
  • The user's manual is located in the left-hand column - click it to access the guide.

3. Some modules also have "in-app" support .  For example, when using data walls, users that click on the "?" icon will see that portion of the online user's guide.

Support Tickets

1. If you need to open a support ticket, locate the “Support” button on the bottom left hand of the screen.
2. A dialog box will open – giving you the opportunity to tell us about your issue – and allows you to attach a screen shot.  The more details you can provide, the more the support team can dig in and respond to your request.

Logging In

Be sure to bookmark the website

1. Open a new tab.

2. Point your web browser to  https://app.ion-k12.com.

3. Use the sign in method your district has set up for you.

Be sure to bookmark the website.

Changing Schools

To change your active school, click the pink school drop down at the top of the page. Your permissions will dictate what schools you will be able to access.

Note: “All Schools” is available, but due to the large amount of data being loaded, best practice is to only use “All Schools” when needed.

Searching for a Student

Underneath the “Me” box, there is a search box. To find a student, begin typing the first letter of a student’s last name. This is an auto-complete search box. When you have located the student, either click on their name, or use the arrow keys to select a student. Pressing “Enter” before a student is selected will do nothing.

You can also search by first name. To search for a student named Erin Miller, you can type mi,er. (Last Name <COMMA> First Name)

Dashboard and Data Wall Navigation

Clicking on the Data Wall or Dashboard links will take you to a similar screen. Our navigator tool organizes data walls and dashboards into buckets based on what we call Scope.

There are four default scopes for data walls and dashboards. Both “Data Walls” and “Dashboards” use the same organization.

1. My Data Walls

These data walls are only accessible to you. Nobody else can see them. Nobody else can edit them.

2. School Walls

These data walls are available to anyone who is at the selected school. Everybody can see them. Only the original author (or a district admin) can edit data walls in the school scope. If you would like to modify a wall in the School scope, you must first make a copy of that wall. It will then be placed in “My Data Walls” – and you are free to edit.

3. District Walls

These data walls are available to anyone who is at the district. Everybody can see them. Only the district admins can place data walls in the district scope. If you would like to modify a wall in the School scope, you must first make a copy of that wall. It will then be placed in “My Data Walls” – and you are free to edit.

ion Data Walls

There is a specialized context folder. It’s purple, and called “ion Walls” (or ion Dashboards). This context is reserved for data walls and dashboards that were developed and deployed by ion.

Folders

The wall and dashboard browser is organized in hierarchical folders. Clicking a green folder will take you one level deeper. To return to a higher level in the folder hierarchy, use the breadcrumbs immediately above the folders.

Data Walls Buttons and Icons

Within a folder, you will see blue data wall buttons. Each button contains the name of the data wall, and up to four “badges” in the upper right hand corner.

  1. If you have the ability to edit the given data wall, you will see a green “edit” icon.
  2. The purple copy icon makes a copy of the data wall.
  3. If you have the ability to delete the given data wall, you will see a red “trash” icon.
  4. The last badge lists the number of times a data wall has been viewed.

To view the data wall, click the blue wall button.

Viewing a Data Wall

Data Walls in ion look a lot like a spreadsheet. They also function like a spreadsheet. Data Wall users can sort, filter, and drill into data.  To view a data wall, click on it.

Sorting

To sort any column in a data wall, simply click the header row of the column you wish to sort. Values will sort automatically.

You can sort by multiple columns by holding down the "Alt" key.

Quick Filter

Directly below the header row is the Quick Filter bar.

To filter a column, simply begin typing your filter conditions in the quick filter text box. The data wall will automatically update.

You can filter on multiple columns. Type your filter value in as many columns as you'd like.

Quick Filter Operators

In addition to simply typing a value, you can use operators to filter data walls.

Greater Than (>)
Less Than (<)
Greater Than or Equal To (>=)
Less Than or Equal To (<=)
Not Equal To (!=)

Assessment Detail

Each cell that contains assessment data is clickable. To view the details of a given assessment, simply click the score, and a window will appear displaying additional details.
