Intervention Group Builder

Updated on

Overview

After creating the intervention group, the intervention group builder must be completed.  Depending on the way the intervention group was created, some of the items (such as the group name or students) might populate automatically.

Permissions

Set up roles and permissions for staff using the MTSS module that best fits your district.

For example,

  • Teachers might be able to view plans
  • Interventionists might have permissions to view and manage plans
  • Coaches might have permissions to modify and delete plans.

For more information on creating / assigning roles and permissions, view managing permissions.

Here are a couple of tips for permissions in the MTSS module:

1. Those who are creating groups may need to see all students.

  • Anyone can create an intervention group, but staff can only add students they have permissions to view.

2. Only those with the role of "interventionist" will drop down to select in the group builder.

  • The intervention group cannot be saved until an interventionist is selected; be sure to add the "interventionist" role to all who are giving interventions.

3.  Limit the permissions to modify and delete to those who require it.

  • Once an item has been deleted, there are limited options (if any) to retrieve it.
Group Builder

1. Group Name - Use a naming convention that allows you to find the groups easily/quickly.

If this intervention group was built from a data wall or a dashboard, the Group Name will auto populate.

2. Intervention and Interventionist - These selections will drop down to choose.  Those with administrative access will have set up the Intervention Dictionary and set permissions for interventionists.

Only one interventionist and only one intervention can be selected for a group.  Changing an intervention or interventionist will close the current group and start a new one. More information on changing interventions / interventionist in Closing Intervention Groups.

3.  Tier/Minutes/Schedule - Choose the information appropriate for the intervention.  Enter the Minutes / Schedule according to the intervention group meeting times; for example, this group meets 30 minutes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Minutes of instruction be tracked in ion.  See MTSS - Checkins and Understanding a Skill's Components to learn more.

4. Progress Monitoring - Select how often progress monitoring will occur- weekly, monthly, etc.

Reports can be generated on progress monitoring - See Editing Dashboards and the VIDEO on Chart Setup - Report 'Caseload Status with Date Range'"

5. Start Date of Intervention/ Weeks - Enter the date the intervention group began.  The system will default to today's date.  Typically, the start date is before the first progress monitoring score.  If instruction goes on longer than anticipated, the weeks can be edited.

The system will require a date and weeks before saving the Intervention Group Builder.  The system is flexible to allow users to keep intervention groups open and move students in and out of an intervention group without changing the dates or weeks.

6. Click Save - After this information has been saved, the dialogue box will populate to enter skills.

7. Skills, CBM, Measure -  Click the green "Add Skill" icon. The skills, CBMs and Measures will be selected from the drop down. Click save to add the skill. Those with administrative access will have set up the skill and CBM dictionaries.  See Add a Skill to Intervention Group

Add as many skills that will be monitored in this intervention group. The same skill cannot be added more than once per intervention group. See CBM Dictionary and Skill Dictionary to learn more.

8. Add students - type in the first few letters of a student's last name.  Select the name from those that populate.

9. Make any necessary changes to progress monitoring -

  • (a) Check the skill to be monitored.  The system will use the default start date of the intervention group.  Adjust the date if needed.  Be sure to start before the benchmark if you wish to include the benchmark monitor.  If a student does not require monitoring on a particular skill, do not check it.
  • (b) Click on the drop down by monitored grade to monitor off grade level.
  • (c) Use the purple icon to monitor on and off grade level.
  • (d) Click save for each item.

See Progress Monitoring On and Off Grade Level

When setting the start date for skills, be sure to select a date on or before the date the progress monitors are imported / recorded.  If the date selected is later than the progress monitors are imported/recorded, the data will not be available.
